for stallion owners
We have been breeding stallions by live cover since the 80's and in 1997 Christine (owner/operator of SMS ERC) attended Colorado State University for their Shipped Semen, Frozen Semen, and Mare Management Courses. While operating SMS' mobile shipped semen lab from 1997 to 2005 Christine Michelson trained and collected many stallions in numerous situations.
There is more to shipping semen than just getting it to the other end alive. Not only does motility affect conception rates but so does concentration, and many people shipping semen don't even realize this. Visit our Article section to find out more.
SMS ERC offers stallion boarding. We have spacious paddocks with irrigation in the summer and a run in shelter for shade or inclement weather. Or, if you wish to keep your stallion at home but still ship semen through us we are available to collect your stallion for shipped semen or on-site insemination.
We are usually available 7 days a week by appointment. If you wish to use our services for your stallion, you can also be listed on our website at no additional charge.

for mare owners
We have been in the breeding business since the 80's and collecting stallions, shipping semen, and inseminating mares since 1997 when Christine was certified at Colorado State University. When you bring your mare to SMS' Equine Reproduction Center you know she is being managed by experienced equine reproduction specialists.
As we also stand stallions at SMSERC, your mare will have the added benefit of being teased by a stallion. This not only helps nature along, but also saves on veterinary charges. In most instances the stallion and the mare will indicate when she is in heat. This can save you 100's of $$'s by not having to periodically ultrasound your mare, hoping to find her in heat.
If your mare is bred at SMSERC by a stallion we manage and is left here until she is checked in foal, then your Artificial Inseminations are included in your mare care.
